- Swiss Pop Dance Music

Flag is Yello's sixth original album, released in 1988 and featuring the eight-minute tour-de-force, "The Race", the single of which reached number 7 in the UK singles chart in August of that year. "Flag" Album Description:

Swiss electronic music pioneers Yello have always walked a path less traveled. Their 1988 album "Flag" continues that tradition, offering a sonic playground where quirky synth-pop collides with avant-garde flourishes, world music influences, and a healthy dose of humor.

"Flag" opens with the iconic "The Race." This pulsating anthem instantly became synonymous with sporting events and high-energy pursuits. Built around frenetic rhythms and Boris Blank's manipulated vocals, it's a true Yello classic - immediately recognizable and relentlessly infectious.

The album never stays in one place for long. Tracks like "Tied Up" weave mesmerizing electronic tapestries with Dieter Meier's playful, often nonsensical vocals. "Of Course I'm Lying" offers a dose of cheeky cynicism set to a bouncy rhythm, while the instrumental "3rd of June" delivers a brooding, atmospheric piece.

Yello's sonic experimentation shines through on "Flag." Tracks like "Blazing Saddles" incorporate elements of world music, while others feature unusual instrumentation and sound effects. This unpredictable nature keeps listeners engaged, offering surprises around every rhythmic corner.

The original 12" vinyl LP of "Flag" remains highly sought after by collectors. Its artwork, featuring a bold and graphic style, perfectly embodies the album's eccentric energy.
